Membership: How to Join
|
You can become a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church by one of the following steps:
- By Profession of Faith in Christ and Baptism
If you would like to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord, please come to the front during the closing hymn in one of our worship services and let a pastor know of your desire to become a Christian and be baptized by immersion. A pastor or a counselor will gladly guide you in this life changing decision. We will schedule baptism for a later date.
- By Baptism
If you have received Christ as your Savior and Lord, but have not been baptized by immersion, please come to the front during the invitation hymn and share this desire with a pastor. We will schedule your baptism for a later date.
- By Transfer of Membership
If you can provide the name of a church of like faith and order where you are a member in good standing and would like to transfer your membership to Mount Vernon, please come forward during the invitation hymn and share this with a pastor. We will gladly write to your church and request your transfer of membership.
- By Statement of Faith
In the event that church membership records are not available for a transfer of membership, or if you were once a member of a Baptist church but are presently a member of another denomination, you can give a statement of your faith in Christ and assure the church that you have been baptized by immersion in a church of like faith and order.
- As an Associate Member
An individual may become an associate member if he or she is a student who wishes to retain his or her membership in their home church, while committing to serve the Lord at Mount Vernon. Also, seasonal residents of the Boone area such as those who live in Florida may choose to become an associate member. Associate members enjoy the privileges of full membership except voting rights. They must be able to express their faith in Jesus Christ as personal Savior and follow Him in New Testament baptism.
All new church members are required to complete the Connecting 101 New Member’s Class to fulfill membership requirements for the church. Details of the class schedule are available from one of the pastors or by calling the church office.

The Connecting 101 New Member Orientation class is designed to introduce you to the ministries, beliefs and leadership of Mount Vernon. Pastor Allan personally leads the class. The ministers take a few minutes each to share about their area of ministry and to tell about their family. You will learn about our history, our beliefs, our relationship with other Southern Baptist churches, how to become a member of Mount Vernon, what to expect from staff and what we expect from our members. We enjoy a meal together at the end of the class. While the class is required to be a member of the church, you do not have to make a commitment to membership before attending the class. In a typical class half of those attending are considering membership while the other half has already made a commitment to join the church. It is important that you sign up for the class so we will have a notebook and a meal ready for you. Child care is available -- let us know and we'll make the arrangements for you. Please call Connie in the church office at 828-266-9700 or click here to email her. She will be glad to answer your questions or make your reservation. |
