Music Ministry

The goal of worshiping, honoring, and glorifying God is the chief end of the music ministry at Mount Vernon Church. As we seek to accomplish that end, it is also our prayer that those present in our services will be challenged and drawn into a closer and more committed walk with Jesus Christ.

Another desired outcome of participation in the music ministry is the joy and satisfaction that can only come through the giving of ourselves in wholehearted service to Christ. Being a part of a choir or an instrumental group affords the opportunity of being a part of offering to God and His people something significant that is bigger than anything we might do ourselves.

Below you will find many of the musical opportunities available at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. As you peruse the list below, perhaps you will discover an area of involvement that can become for you a rewarding and fulfilling offering of service to God that will change your life forever.

ADULT CHOIR

Rehearsal: Wednesdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m., Choir Rehearsal Room in the Music Suite
Our Sanctuary Choir sings for Sunday Morning Services and special events. The choir sings music in a variety of musical styles. Past performances include:

Membership is open to anyone ages 17 and older. The choir has sung at the North Carolina Baptist Convention Pastor’s Conference, the High Country Concert of Prayer, and at an International Mission Board Commissioning Service at Ridgecrest Conference Center.

KIDZ CHOIR

In KIDZ Choirs we:

Sing fun songs
play fun games
learn about God's Word
memorize God's Word
enjoy time with other kids and leaders who care most about the spiritual development of children

Each week all these great things center around a spiritual truth or concept in such a way that Kidz Choirs could be one of the most spiritually profitable events in your child's week.

Rehearsal: Sundays at 5:00 p.m.
This choir program is for all children ages 4 through Grade 6. The choirs divide to the following age groupings and purposes.

PK Praise
(Preschool Kindergarten Choir):
Ages 4-5 year olds • Room 1202 • Begins February 14
KK Praise
(Kings Kids Praise):
Grades 1-6 • Room 1103 • Begins April 11

ENSEMBLES
Rehearsals are based on individual ensemble membership schedules. All members are required to be active, faithful members of the Music Ministry. Call the Music office for rehearsal schedules.

First Light
Membership is comprised of selected members from Sanctuary Choir. The ensemble sings generally once a month for Sunday worship services, special events and for community/ministry opportunities.

Sounds of Joy
Membership is for college students by audition only. The ensemble sings primarily for our Sunday worship services, but has opportunities to travel on a limited basis. Guidelines for membership are filed in the music office.
